Known mostly for his cameo appearances, Danny Trejo takes the lead in the new Robert Rodriguez film Machete. Developed from a fake trailer in Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 film Grindhouse, the film follows Machete, a legendary ex-Federale, out for revenge from those who have double-crossed him.
Joining Rodriguez as a co-director is Ethan Maniquis, who usually works as an editor in Rodriguez’s films. Quentin Tarantino joined the two as producer.
To go along with the directing power of Rodriguez, Machete brings in a star powered cast. Joining Trejo are Steven Seagal, Michelle Rodriguez, Cheech Marin, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba, and the always entertaining Robert De Niro. The film was made for a mere $25M and hopes to top that figure within the first two weeks of release. Machete comes out in theaters September 3rd.
