This week, Los Angeles played host to the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2010 (E3) and MakingOf was there to bring you all the latest from the gaming world. It seems that the world of video games and films are coming closer than ever before. Here are the Top Ten things at E3 2010 that will rock the movie industry into the next year.
1) The Nintendo 3DS: Portable 3D entertainment without the glasses
This device breaks new ground by offering users the chance to play games and watch movies in full 3D on one portable device, without wearing any glasses. Also, according to reports, three film studios (Disney, Dreamworks and Warner Bros.) have already begun porting their 3D films to the Nintendo 3DS system.

The first real sign of the future of 3D is here, and it’s all due to Nintendo.
2) Goldeneye007 for Wii: THE first person shooter returns
The favorite classic game from the 90’s is back but with the volume turned up. When I asked about proximity mines, classic multiplayer levels like ‘the facility’ and the original unlockable modes (“Big Heads,” Invincibility”) the representative was squirming with glee eluding that these elements from the original game are still included. Throw in the fact that the game includes a brand new first person campaign with Daniel Craig in the top spot, this game is sure to be the ultimate shooter for the Wii and one of the best of the year.

3) Microsoft’s Video Kinect: Remember Tom Cruise in “Minority Report”?
People of all ages will now be able to control their media playback by both voice and physical motion.thanks to Microsoft’s Kinect. Simply speaking,“pause,” while watching a movie will pause the movie and start again when you tell it to “start”. Plus, the camera tracks your movements so you stay in frame – no matter the distance or where you are in the room. Even better, Video Kinect also allows users to watch a movie together from the comfort of their own homes

4) Mortal Kombat: Rebirth Viral Video – The MK franchise goes “Dark Knight”
This pre-E3 video got fans of videogames and movies to come together in an epic online discussion of what this video was, where it came from and how could they get more! Collider did some sleuthing and found that the creator turned out to be Fame director Kevin Tancharoen. The short is a ridiculously fun take on the series with an obvious Dark Knight vibe – even featuring Michael Jai White as Jackson ‘Jax’ Briggs, a well known Mortal Kombat fighter. Let’s hope Tancharoen can bring his vision from a YouTube link to the big screen.
5) Epic Mickey: An 80 year old movie star becomes a videogame legend
An entertainment icon, Mickey Mouse is back in digital form on the Nintendo Wii this September in Epic Mickey. The game sees the return of Walt Disney’s original cartoon star, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, now with a bitter grudge against Mickey.
Warren Spector, creator and lead architect of the game worked closely with The Walt Disney Company and Pixar to bring Mickey into a world filled with Disney movie references.

“We want to make Mickey Mouse as big a hero in video games as he is in other media,” Spector remarked. “Mickey Mouse deserves no less.”
6) Star Wars Kinect Demo: Fanboys will finally “use the force”
No Top 10 movie list can go by without a mention of Star Wars, and at E3 2010 there was no exception. Three new games promised to propel fanboys even deeper into the universe. Lucasarts has jumped at the chance to utilize Microsoft’s new Kinect system to allow users to literally “use the force” with hand gestures pushing Stormtroopers out of the way. Two other titles that everyone was excited for included Star Wars: The Force Unleased II and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

7) Sony PS3 3D capabilities: The PS3 (kinda) does everything
Lower on the list because this doesn’t look like it’s going mainstream anytime soon – the Sony PS3 has unveiled it’s 3D capabilities and was able to play 3D movies and games from the get go. Sony’s conference opened with a look at new games coming to the system, namely Killzone 3, Tron: Evolution, Gran Turismo 5 and Mortal Kombat. While on display the 3D glasses required do bring an unnatural grey hue to 3D gaming – not to mention a newly announced 3D Bravia televisions.

Scott Pilgrim takes over The World
Like the comics? Can’t wait for the film? Well the game is not far behind (releasing as a digital download August 10, 2010). Going back to a classic 16-bit sidescroller like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Time – take control of Scott Pilgrim, Romona Flowers, Stephen Stills, or Kim Pine in this old school style adventure game. It’s sure to be a hit and prepare you for both the final graphic novel,Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour hitting stores July 20, 2010, and the premiere of the feature film staring Michael Cera, on August 13th.

9) Tron: Evolution – it’s coming and it’s awesome
One of the most anticipated films of the year is Tron: Legacy, the sequel to 1982’sTron, Disney’s groundbreaking film that put the audience into the world of video games. In conjuncture with the film is the new game,Tron: Evolution, a prequel story set between the two films. The trailer is narrated by Bruce Boxleitner (“Alan Bradley”) as he guides gamers through lightcycle races and Recognizer ships in the 3D world of Tron. The 3D version of the game will be exclusively available on Sony’s Playstation 3.

10) iPhone 6 will be 3D
In addition to the announcement of Nintendo 3DS and Apple’s continued push into videogames (Apple now has over 50k games on the iPhone and iPod Touch!). Danny Trachtenberg from the Totally Rad Show has made his proclamation that “iPhone 6 will be 3D” – here’s looking forward to 3D text messages, Facetime 3D and more!
