Paul Ottosson is nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing for his work on the independent film "The Hurt Locker." He invited MakingOf to his Los Angeles office to discuss his profession and experience in detail. In this exclusive interview, Ottosson describes the most challenging parts of his work and explains that he evaluates battle scenes extensively before mixing the sound. He then details that he must think through facts such as from certain distance a bullet would hit and kill you before anyone would hear it. He also reminisces about screening the film with veterans and names that as one of his most rewarding moments.
